Madrid is supposed to be hot as, well hot! In speaking with some locals there via Hot or Not. com , they said we need to take the town slow. It will be bad if I develop blisters on my bald head from intense heat! We plan on staying a few days in Madrid and also visiting Toledo and possibly some of the other towns nearby

Encarnacion Monastery - Over 1,000 reliquaries containing bits of saints' bodies are lodged here side by side under the monks' care. Skulls, bones, powdered blood and bits of dessicated flesh comprise a holy motel, all the relics fastidiously labeled with the saints' names. The reliquaries are shiny boxes shaped like churches, houses, hearts, hands, heads, pillboxes, columns and crosses. Peek through crystal windows to see the remains, though the boxes' cumulative golden sheen will make you squint. In one small jar resides the dried blood of St. Pantaleon, aid to miraculously liquefy on the martyr's feast day every July 27.

Monument to the Fallen Angel - Lucifer wasn't always such a bad guy. He once had a pretty cushy place in heaven as one of Mr. Big's favorites. But then he took a tumble and ended up down in hell as Satan. If you think Lucifer's an odd figure to merit a major monument, you're not alone: this is apparently the world's only public statue in his honor. He's portrayed as a handsome young devil, wrestling with a nasty-looking snake. Grinning monstrous demons await him below, clutching alligators in their claws.
